Probing Fears and Medical Tests
Three things I fear about the standard prostate exam:
1. That it will hurt and feel weird.
2. That they will find something bad.
3. That I might LIKE it.

Just do it, and do it at the recommended interval. It probably saved my father's life, and analogous preventive maintenance almost surely saved mine. In my case, a delay of even a few months could have led to a MUCH worse outcome.
