My Kermit the Frog Nightmare

I had a moral nightmare the other night while asleep. It was Kermit the Frog. He was singing that song about it not being easy to be green. And he sang it to its conclusion about acceptance, and the wonders of the ordinary.

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why? Wonder,
I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.

Me: A nice message, and about acceptance, and one can even learn that from a toad.

Kermit: What? WHAT did you fucking call me? I'm no fucking goddamn toad. I'm a FROG, a fucking FROG! Toads are slimy and poisonous and lazy. They're loud and pushy, and always whining. I'm a goddamned frog. We become princes. Toads -- you know -- toadies, toadstool, all that shit. Always trying to be cool like us frogs.

Me: But but they're green....

Kermit: No, NO! They aren't green, they just look it. They're trying to "'pass".

Me: I'm going now.

Kermit: Oh, well that's real white o' ya. ... Can you believe that, calling me a fucking TOAD?

No, I'm out of the hip zone but I'll check it out.

I forwarded an Australian journalist colleague your oppressed/suck essay after he asked me, in all seriousness, why the UK papers "were all so anti-semitic".

His response was that "we would have to agree to differ". I was kind of astounded - and profoundly disappointed - that an Australian journo would be indoctrinated to a state of such bizarre blind partisanship (he does have some Jewish heritage apparently, but that's no excuse) and that even the concept of trying to see both sides was, to him, somehow anti-semitic in itself.

I might expect it of an American journo whose entire work experience was on FOX news and editing Ann Coulter's blog, but ffs. This was a guy who has worked extensively overseas as well.

Thanks for passing along, though I think my oppressed/suck thing is more aimed at looking at the behaviors of oppressed peoples, than of their champions or chroniclers.

I suspect in any event the guy has identity issues he hasnt resolved.
